Dianthus are a flowering, low growing, compact perennial. They are grown for their colourful flowers. There are many colours available from whites, pinks, multicolours to red. The foliage is usually a grey colour and stays very low. Flowers occur mostly in spring but they will flower sporadically throughout the year.
A perfect plant for cottage gardens, rockeries, mixed plantings, borders and even hanging baskets.
Once they become established they are incredibly hardy and will tolerate a wide range of soils. If you prune the spent flowers it will prolong the flowering period.
